At least 5 killed in air crash in US state of New Mexico

HOUSTON -- A twin-engine plane crashed on Thursday morning at a regional airport in the U.S. state of New Mexico, killing at least five people and wounding two others, authorities said.

The Cessna 310 plane overshot a runway while landing and crashed at the end of the runway at Sierra Blanca Regional Airport in south-central New Mexico, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said.

State police officer Eric Garcia confirmed five people onboard were killed and two others were wounded and rushed to a hospital.

The police are "working with the originating airport right now to get a better idea of how many passengers were onboard," Garcia was quoted as saying by CBS.

Authorities said the cause of the crash was not immediately known.
