KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A suicide bomber blew himself up next to the Kandahar airport in south Afghanistan on Tuesday, casualties feared, an official said but declined to be identified.
"The bomber, a pedestrian, blew himself up in the north part of the airport," the official told Xinhua but refused to be identified.
He also said that the bomber was killed in the explosion and his body is lying there.
The Kandahar airport is the main base of NATO-led troops in south Afghanistan.
Meantime, a Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, in talks with media via telephone from an unknown location, claimed that the outfit has sent seven suicide bombers inside the Kandahar airport and they have already begun fighting with the security forces.
