PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday urged the withdrawal of US forces from South Korea after a 65-year-long deployment, the official KCNA news agency said.
The Jurists Institute of Korea of the DPRK released a white paper, demanding the withdrawal after a lapse of 65 years since the United States enforced its "colonial rule" over South Korea after occupying it on September 8, 1945, the KCNA said.

The US occupation of South Korea was a product of the US policy of dominating the whole Korea, a wanton violation of the sovereignty of the Korean nation, a blatant breach of international agreements on the Korean issue and a flagrant violation of international law, it added.
The Korean War ignited by the United States also made the Koreans suffer great losses, it said.
As dark clouds of war are still hanging over the Korean Peninsula in the new century, all the peace-loving people and progressive jurists over the world should extend full support for and solidarity with the Korean people in their just struggle, said the white paper.
On September 2, 1945, the United States announced the US forces would enter the areas south of the 38th Parallel on the Korean Peninsula, and began deploying troops there on September 8.
