Chinese national day reception held in Russia

MOSCOW - The Chinese embassy hosted a grand reception Wednesday night, celebrating the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

More than 600 people gathered at the reception, toasting the festive occasion and their long-enduring friendship while extending their best wishes for the future prosperity of China.

Zhang Haizhou, charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy, introduced the great achievements of new China since her foundation.

In particular, he stressed the effective measures adopted by the Chinese government against the global financial crisis, the steady and rapid growth of Chinese economy, and the significant and magnificent Shanghai World Expo.

As a developing country, China would firmly adhere to the road of opening up and peaceful development, said Zhang.

Russian guests all congratulated China on her National Day, lauding her transformation during the past 61 years, as well as her contribution to the world's peace, stability and development.

All participants at the reception hailed the rapid development and fruitful strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Russia.

They said the May visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Russia celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Victory Day has fully demonstrated the strategic partnership of cooperation.

The series of bilateral agreements signed during the recent visit to China by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was also of strategic significance, they said.

All participants voiced willingness to continue their commitment to the friendship between China and Russia for generations.

A photo exhibition introducing the Shanghai Expo was also staged at the embassy.

Guests from the Russian side included Deputy Speaker of Russian State Duma Ivan Melnikov, Russia's First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov, Russian Chairman of China-Russia Friendship Committee for Peace and Development Leonid Drachevsky.
