ASEAN women's organizations to meet in Vietnam

HANOI -- Vietnam will host the 14th meeting of the General Assembly of the ASEAN Confederation of Women's Organizations (ACWO) from October 19 to 20, according to the Vietnam Women's Union on Tuesday.

The meeting is expected to draw more than 200 delegates from women's organizations of countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and several international organizations.

ASEAN women's organizations to meet in Vietnam China-ASEAN collaboration grows

The meeting serves as a forum for women in the region to intensify exchanges, share information and experiences on issues of common interest.

With the theme of "Enhancing Women's Effective Participation toward a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable ASEAN", participants will discuss enhancement of women's role in the economic area and in response to climate change, and the role of government in promotion of women's progress and gender quality.

During the two-day meeting, there will be seminars on poverty reduction, food security and food safety, migrant workers, and fight against violence to women and children.

At the end of the meeting, the ACWO General Assembly is expected to adopt a joint resolution to reflect its commitments to boost the participation and contribution of women towards the development of each country and region, as well as the implementation of government's commitments to women's progress and gender equality.
