1 killed, 5 injured in taxi-train collision in Philippines

MANILA - One died while five others were injured after the taxi they were riding was hit by a passenger train in the Philippine capital Manila, Philippine Star reported Tuesday.

The 17-year-old girl, identified as Gemma Reyes, died while being treated at a local hospital. The others are still being treated for the injuries they sustained.

Reports said that Reyes and the others were on their way for a checkup when the taxi they were riding attempted to cross the tracks but was hit by the oncoming train at around 6:30 am Tuesday.

The driver of the taxi is now in police custody and might face criminal charges, Philippine Star said.
