BEIJING- An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale hit near the east coast of Honshu of Japan at 10:32 pm Beijing Time Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 38.2 degrees north latitude and 142.0 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 40 kilometers, the center said.
