TUNIS, Tunisia - Tunisia's Defense Ministry says four mortar shells from fighting in neighboring Libya have hit Tunisian territory.

It is unclear who fired the shells into a deserted area Monday. No injuries were reported.

The state news agency TAP cites the ministry as saying that three hit about 300 meters (yards) south of the Lamlas border post. The fourth fell 500 meters (yards) from the border.

The ministry said Tuesday it rules out a premeditated act against Tunisia.

Thousands of Libyans have been arriving daily in southern Tunisia's Dehiba region as they flee fighting in Libya's Western Mountains region.

Tunisia is struggling to maintain stability after protests forced its longtime president to flee and sparked uprisings around the Arab world, including in Libya.
