6.4-magnitude quake hits New Ireland region

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted New Ireland region, Papua New Guinea at 8:50 am Beijing Time Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 30 km, was monitored at 3.1 degrees south latitude and 150.7 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
