CAIRO - Egypt's former Vice President Omar Suleiman began testimony in ex-President Hosni Mubarak's trial at a criminal court in Cairo Tuesday, state TV said.

Suleiman was summoned by judges to testify if Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib el-Adli ordered to kill peaceful protestors during the turmoil in late January and early February.

Suleiman had been Egypt's intelligence chief before being appointed vice president in late January by Mubarak to calm down protests.

The court was supposed to summon Chairman of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Hussein Tantawi Sunday, and Chief of Staff Sami Anan Monday, but their testimonies were postponed to September 24 and 25 respectively.
