A large international trade exhibition for exporters will be held in Kuala Lumpur from November 22 to 24.
Intrade 2011 is targeting 9000 trade visitors, 400 exhibitors and 20 exhibiting countries. Exhibitors include manufacturers, exporters, service providers and trade associations from 10 industry clusters.
Last year's event attracted more than 8,400 trade visitors and 340 exhibitors from 12 countries.
The Malaysian government launched Intrade in 2007 to help companies from the Southeast Asian country – small and medium-sized firms in particular – build market share and expand overseas.
Intrade 2011 will feature several key programs. Incoming Buying Mission matches Malaysian producers with international buyers through one-on-one business meetings. KL International Trade Forum provides a platform for business leaders to exchange ideas on global commerce. It is expected to attract 1,000 delegates. FTA@Intrade is designed to strengthen commercial ties between Malaysia and its free trade partners.
"Free trade agreements offer market access opportunities for Malaysian products, services to FTA partner countries and sourcing of inputs for production at a lower cost," said Yb Dato' Mukhriz Mahatir, Malaysia's Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, in a statement.
Malaysia's overall trade in 2010 was valued at RM1.169 trillion, up 18.3 percent from RM988.24 billion in 2009. Exports grew by 15.6 percent while imports rose 21.7 percent compared with 2009. Malaysia recorded a trade surplus of RM110.23 billion for the year.
