MEXICO CITY - At least ten people died and 16 others were injured on Monday near the capital city when a bus they were on board overturned in a ravine, police said.
A total of ten bodies - three women and seven men - were recovered, including a minor, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals with some in critical conditions, according to police.
The accident happened at 07:45 local time (1245 GMT) in the municipality of Huixquilucan, in the outskirts of Mexico City, where the bus plunged into a 15-meter-deep ravine.
Initial police investigations showed that speeding caused the bus driver, 38-year-old Bonifacio Santiago, to lose control of the bus before it fell into the ravine.
Santiago, also injured, is receiving treatment in hospital under police monitoring.
