BUENOS AIRES - At least eight people, including five children, died Thursday in a collision between a bus and a truck in Argentina, authorities said.

The bus, carrying 50 people, slammed into the truck on Route 7 near Chacabuco City, about 180 km northwest of the Argentine capital, in Buenos Aires Province.

The accident took place at 9:40 pm local time (0040 GMT) when the bus touched the left side of the truck, local police said.

The children were returning from a visit to Racing Football Club's stadium in Avellaneda, south of Buenos Aires.

Director of local hospital Mario Villanueva told TN News Channel that, in addition to the eight fatalities, at least another 13 were injured, among whom three children were in critical condition.

Chacabuco Mayor Ruben Golia said he was "in shock" and confirmed "the victims were five children, two women and a man."

Argentina is still reeling from a bus-train collision in San Luis Province on Wednesday that killed eight people, including six children. The bus was carrying 49 girls and adults when it collided with the train.
