JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation said on Wednesday that it is monitoring the violent fuel strike in Nigeria.

International relations spokesperson Clayson Monyela told Talk Radio in 702 in Johannesburg that consular services remain available for affected South Africans.

"Services are available around the clock for any information and assistance, both in South Africa and Nigeria," he said.

Monyela said no decision has been taken on issuing a travel alert for South Africans in Nigeria.

Wednesday marks the third day of the protests against the Nigerian government's decision to cut fuel subsidies. At least 13 people have been killed in nationwide protests.
