Chinese businesswoman shot dead in Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A Chinese businesswoman was killed in a gun attack by gunman Monday night near the commercial district in downtown of Zamboanga, police said on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Miao Rong Shi, 50, a Chinese national and member of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCCI), who resided temporary at the apartment of Jose Go Huilo Building along Tomas Claudio Street.

Police investigation disclosed that the victim has just gone out from the building where she was staying when she was shot about 7:50 pm local time by one of the two unidentified gunmen riding in tandem on a motorcycle just in front of the Zone III barangay hall.

Police investigator initially believed the motive of the attack was robbery but further investigation continued to determine other angle of the crime.

The leadership of the FCCCI conduct the attack and urged the police authorities to arrest the perpetrators even as they expressed alarm over the unabated shooting incident in the city.

Police forces continued the pursuit against the suspects following the statement provided by some witnesses but declined to give further details.
