Counting of Indian presidential election begins

NEW DELHI - The counting of the presidential election in India began Sunday in the Indian Parliament Upper House without suspension.

Former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is expected to have a landslide win from the votes of India's national and state lawmakers, according to local media reports.

Mukherjee, a candidate of the ruling Congress and its allies, could win at least 63 percent of the votes while Purno Sangma, a candidate of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, is expected to win 28 percent.
