US passenger plane returns due to explosives scare

WASHINGTON - A flight bound for Dallas was returned to Philadelphia on Thursday after police received a warning that liquid explosives could be on board, authorities said.

One person has been detained in connection with the incident and no one on board was harmed, local TV stations reported.

WPVI TV, an ABC affiliate, reported that Philadelphia police received an anonymous call that a specific person was carrying an explosive liquid and was aboard US Airways Flight 1267, which had left for Dallas.

Authorities ordered the flight to return to Philadelphia, where officials boarded the plane.

The plane returned to Philadelphia out of an "abundance of caution for the passengers," according to the airline.

One person in shorts and black T-shirt was detained and taken off the plane, TV images showed. He knelt on the tarmac after being escorted off the plane and was later transferred to FBI custody.

Other passengers and crew also got off the plane as authorities searched the aircraft. An airline spokeswoman said 69 passengers and five crew members were on board the Airbus A319 aircraft.

The plane was later cleared of dangerous material, but there was no word if the passengers would reboard the aircraft.

Philadelphia International Airport remained open but several later flights to Dallas were delayed.
