TOKYO - A US Marine lieutenant has admitted to a charge of trespassing at an apartment in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture, saying he entered the room after he was heavily drunk, local police said on Monday.
The 24-year-old Tomas Chanquet was arrested on Sunday. He is suspected of entering a room of a fourth-floor building in Naha without permission at around 7:35 am on Sunday.
Chanquet told the police that he was embarrassed for having caused such an incident and apologized for those people who were frightened by his act, local media citing an official at the Naha police as saying.
Chanquet was stationed at the US Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station in Ginowan in Okinawa. His arrest comes after the US military just imposed an 11 pm to 5 am curfew last month on all staffs in Japan following an alleged rape of a Japanese women by two US servicemen.
