Pakistan yesterday reaffirmed that Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan should be resolved bilaterally under the framework of the United Nations resolution on the issue.
Noting that relations between the two countries were on the mend, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Masood Khan said at a press conference”. The dispute should be resolved according to the wishes of Kashmiri people “under the auspices of the United Nations”.
Khan, who is the president of UN Security Council for the month of January, told reporters that Pakistan was organising an open debate on January 15 on a “comprehensive approach to counter-terrorism”.
“This will give an opportunity to council members and the general membership to have a holistic view of the continuing threats and challenges posed by international terrorism and the best ways of formulating and implementing coherent and comprehensive responses to this menace”.
Pakistan, he said, intended to propose a draft presidential statement.
Pakistan's Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf is also expected to come to New York, but his schedule is yet to be confirmed.
