Helicopter with 13 aboard crashes in Peru
LIMA - A helicopter with nine employees of French oil company Perenco and four crew members aboard -- all Peruvians -- crashed in a remote jungle in Peru's northeastern province of Loreto Sunday, and no surviviors have been found, Perenco said in a statement.
The helicopter chartered by Perenco was flying to the company's Block 67 field when the tragedy occurred, the statement said.
The Russian-made MI-8 plummeted into the jungle near the Arabela River in Loreto, local media said, adding that the cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
Peru's armed forces are in the area and two additional helicopters are taking part in the search and rescue operation, but so far, there has been no sign of any survivors, said the statement.
