Pakistan police arrest former president Musharraf

ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf was arrested by police early Friday morning, reported local media.

According to the reports, Musharraf was taken away by police from his residence in Islamabad at about 7:25 am local time to a local court where the magistrate of the court ordered his judicial remand following an order issued by Islamabad High Court on Thursday to arrest him for detention of a number of judges during the emergency rule he declared in 2007.    

Police did not put handcuffs on Musharraf while taking him away secretly from his farm house in Chak Shehzad, said reports.

Musharraf's farm house in Chak Shehzad on the outskirts of Islamabad has three gates and he was taken away from Gate No 2 while the media people were gathering outside Gate No 3, said local media.

According to reports, Police Chief of Islamabad Bin Yamin met Musharraf in the early hours of the morning and briefed him about the court order and police procedure, said reports.

Musharraf's lawyer confirmed the arrest and said Musharraf surrendered himself to the court.

At the request of police due to security concerns, the local court magistrate reportedly agreed to put Musharraf under house arrest and ordered the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad to declare Musharraf's farm house as sub jail.

Latest reports coming in said that Musharraf has returned to his farm house after surrendering himself to the court.
