The 17 were part of 37 Ebola suspects who were forced to escape the West Point Isolation center by youth who were against the establishment the center in their community.

The youths ransacked the center and took away mattresses and bedspreads soaked with blood. They also made away with food and medicines meant for the inmates.

Police spokesman Sam Collins said that security has been reinforced at all Ebola treatment and isolation centers to prevent a recurrence of the incident.

Ebola which so far has no cure, has claimed 492 lives in Liberia, more than in Sierra Leone and Guinea where the disease was first discovered.
