A child appears oblivious as smoke flows from Tavurvur Volcano, released on Sept 3, 2014. Remarkable pictures depict the extraordinary lives of people living in an ash-covered town in the shadow of three active volcanoes. The town of Rabaul, on New Britain Island in Papua New Guinea, was destroyed almost 20 years ago when volcanoes - Tavurvur, Vulcan and Rabalankaia - erupted. Thanks to an early warning few people died, but the once-popular tourist trap was smothered in thick ash and lava and thousands of families fled the area. [Photo/IC]
