BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting with visiting US President Barack Obama in Beijing Tuesday evening.

Before the meeting, the two heads of state had a walk at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in central Beijing.

Obama is here to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting and pay a state visit to China.

During the walk, Xi said he hopes Obama's visit will achieve fruitful results.

While briefing Obama on the centuries-old history of Zhongnanhai, Xi said it is important to learn about China's modern history in order to understand the Chinese people's current aspirations and the path forward they have chosen.

After the walk, the two leaders began their bilateral meeting to exchange views on Sino-U.S. ties and major intentional and regional issues of mutual concern.
