Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke highly of his meeting with President Xi Jinping during a press conference on Tuesday.
"I believe that my meeting with President Xi this time will enable us to make a major step forward in bilateral relationship," Abe said.
"We (China and Japan) need each other. We are in a way bound with each other," he added.
Willing to develop a dialogue mechanism to prevent accidental clash over the Diaoyu Island, Abe said that Japan and China should go back to the start point of a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship.
However, when asked how Japan will act concretely to improve the bilateral relationship and if his meeting with President Xi could be continued, the Japanese Prime Minister did not give direct answers.
The press conference was held in Hotel New Otani Chang Fu Gong, a hotel built by China and Japan in 1989 to mark the friendship between the two countries.
