Myanmar president to attend GMS summit in Thai capital
YANGON - Myanmar President U Thein Sein will attend the 5th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in the Thai capital of Bangkok, said an official announcement Tuesday.
At the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, President U Thein Sein will join the two-day summit scheduled for Friday to Saturday.
Under the theme of "Committed to Inclusive and Sustainable Development in the GMS", the summit will comprise activities of GMS Investment Forum, GMS Youth Forum, Development Partners' Roundtable, GMS Business Forum and 5th Summit of Task Force's Senior Officials' Meeting on the first day.
On the final day, there will be plenary session and closed-door Leaders' Retreat meeting, according to the agenda and the Leaders' Retreat will discuss important GMS issues, challenges and future directions.
The six-country GMS is made up of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
