BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping met his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday in Beijing, focusing on bilateral cooperation.

The Sino-Egyptian partnership is a strong one, Xi told Sisi, who is in Beijing to attend upcoming events marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

He said the two countries have cooperated in many sectors, with close exchanges between local authorities and in humanities and the military. They have also maintained close coordination in regional and international affairs.

China and Egypt should continue high-level exchanges, promote industrial cooperation and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and security, according to the Chinese president.

The two countries should continue to make joint efforts in multilateral arenas such as the United Nations to safeguard the common interests of developing countries, Xi suggested.

Sisi said he was glad to attend China's V-Day celebrations on behalf of the Egyptian people. He is one of the 30 world leaders who will attend a military parade on Thursday, in his second visit to China.

Egypt values its partnership with China and is excited about cooperating in the Belt and Road regional trade and infrastructure initiative.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of a number of deals in areas including industrial capacity and finance.
