Digital silk road needs rule of law: Official

Laws and regulations are needed to help build the digital silk road into a sound and safe one, said a Chinese information security official at a sub forum during the second World Internet Conference in Wuzhen on Wednesday.

Wu Shizhong, Party Secretary of China Information Technology Security Evaluation Center, said China's lawmakers should work on establishing proper information policies and regulations to govern the Internet and manage risks beforehand on the way to build a risk free digital silk road.

Wu also suggested an international and innovative vision in network governance while building a safe digital silk road. "New features and changes of cyberspace should be weighed in policy-making and the progress and innovation of network life and intelligent production should also be considered in Internet surpervision," Wu added.

Wu called on countries in the Belt and Road region to contribute to integrating resources and innovating models in cooperation for win-win results in building a safe digital silk road and a harmonious international cyberspace community.

The Second World Internet Conference, the most high-profile Internet-related event in China, is taking place in the picturesque water town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, from Dec 16 to 18.

The conference, with a goal of "building a cyberspace community of shared destiny", has gathered together more than 2,000 participants, including state leaders, government officials, business leaders, Internet titans, and experts from more than 120 countries and regions.
