British literature brings readers joy and sorrow

"Thus fear of danger is 10,000 times more terrifying than danger itself." --- Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe

This masterpiece by Daniel Defoe, one of the four most famous novelists in 18th century Britain, is the first realistic novel in British literature. It tells the vivid story of Robinson Crusoe, a son in a merchant family, a young and impulsive wanderer, who ventured sailing, but was thrown to a deserted island. He spends 30 years there, encountering cannibals, captives and mutineers before being rescued.

"It is never too late to be wise."

"All evils are to be considered with the good that is in them, and with what worse attends them."

"Redemption from sin is greater than redemption from affliction."

--- Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe
