Dealing with these challenges makes China the most exciting market to work in. We're constantly investing in R&D, and corporate and functional training, and spending just as much time in the market listening to our customers, consumers, suppliers, local governments, and community groups.

Chinese companies have been looking at the US for investment opportunities as they increase their global footprint. What cultural and social issues do they face, and how would you deal with those issues?

It is indeed a global village where we're all connected: By business, operations, or friends and family. With a new environment and a new group of consumers, there will always be differences, and through differences we see the wonder of diversity. As an Australian in China and working in a global company, I'm a firm believer in embracing diversity and change: Observe the differences, listen to others, and then develop a strategy that fits to win in the long run.

Everywhere in the world the rules are the same: Treat people with respect, be fair and transparent in your decisions, and work toward profitable growth with knowledgeable business partners.
