NAIROBI -- A healthy diplomatic relationship between China and the US is crucial to advance global peace, stability and sustainable development, Kenyan experts said.

The experts, who spoke to Xinhua on Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States, agreed that cordial bilateral ties between the two countries will have far-reaching implications on global economic, political and social order.

President Xi's visit to the US is being watched closely by foreign policy experts given its huge impact on geopolitics and world trade.

Patrick Maluki, a diplomacy scholar at the University of Nairobi, said Xi's historic visit reaffirms Beijing's commitment to partner with Washington to advance shared interests.

"I think President Xi's visit to the US is not only rich in symbolism, but will have global implications," Maluki remarked.

The world is closely watching any slight move made by leaders of the two countries, given their ability to influence almost everything: from markets, world peace and stability, he said.

Maluki hailed China's renewed commitment to improve bilateral ties with the US in order to tackle pressing global challenges.

"Most foreign policy experts agree that cordial relations between the US and China is good for the world, and it is refreshing to witness President Xi's visit to the US to discuss vital issues that affect entire humanity," Maluki told Xinhua.

He added the visit will cement trust between the two countries and minimize geopolitical tensions arising from differing visions on how to tackle global crisis.

President Xi will also attend the UN General Assembly in New York where the Sustainable Development Goals are expected to be adopted.

Maluki noted that both China and the US will be instrumental in the realization of the new and ambitious development targets by 2030.

Joshua Kivuva, a political scientist at the University of Nairobi, stressed that vibrant cooperation between China and the United States is critical to promote peace in the trouble spots across Africa and Middle East.

"We expect China and the US to be on the front-line in efforts to promote world peace. The two countries should galvanize global attention to the threat of nuclear proliferation, terrorism, wildlife crimes and climate change induced disasters," Kivuva said.
