NEW YORK - A woman was killed after being pushed onto the subway track at the Times Square subway station in New York on Monday, according to local authorities.

The incident happened around 1:20 pm at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street. A woman wearing a black jacket and pink shirt pushed the victim down from the platform as a southbound No 1 train was coming into the station, eye-witnesses said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman suspect was taken into custody after multiple police officers on duty in the station were called by bystanders.

The suspect was identified as Melanie Liverpool-Turner, but her motive was not immediately clear, according to local media.

Just this September, a man named Kevin Darden pleaded guilty after he fatally pushed a 61-year-old man into the path of an oncoming subway train in the Borough of Bronx in 2014.
