New 'Forrest Gump' runs over 3,000 km for charity

LOS ANGELES - "Well ... maybe I could run a little more if you think I should? Momma would," Rob Pope, a 38-year-old marathon runner said on his Facebook account on Wednesday.

His latest running journey was equivalent of 85 marathons, which started from Liverpool, England, and ended at Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Unlike scenes in the 67th Oscar-winning "Forrest Gump," where Gump started running without any obvious reason and along random routes for three years and a half, Pope had a designed route and goal -- to raise 1 million dollars for the World Wildlife Fund.

According to local KTLA5 TV, Pope ran more than 54 km per day, which injured his tendon. But that didn't stop him.

"I am quite stubborn," Pope told KTLA5.

In order to add more fun to his journey, Pope sang to himself sometimes. When he met difficulty in his tedious journey, he would recall what his mother told him: "Make sure you do one thing in your life and make a difference."

On Tuesday, Pope finished his journey, yet he was not ready to stop. He would like to run further and keep raising more money for the fund.

"I think I can get across to another ocean, and then maybe if I get to another ocean I might turn around," he said.
