China and Japan will hold their sixth high-level consultation on maritime affairs from Wednesday to Friday in Haikou of southern China's Hainan province, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Wednesday.

The gathering will involve officials in charge of affairs including diplomacy, defense, maritime law enforcement and maritime management, Lu told the ministry's daily news conference in Beijing.

In September last year, the two governments held the fifth consultation in Hiroshima of Japan.

The consultation mechanism between the two countries undertakes comprehensive liaison and coordination in regard to maritime affairs, Lu noted.

"China, in this consultation, is ready to fully exchange views with the Japanese side upon maritime issues of common concerns and strengthen mutual understanding and trust," Lu said.
