Visit to US will help smooth transition in ties, ministry says

State Councilor Guo Shengkun's visit to the United States will play an important role in promoting a smooth transition in China-US ties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said in a news conference on Wednesday.

Guo, also Minister of Public Security, is scheduled to co-host the two countries' third high-level dialogue on cyber crimes and related matters in Washington with the US Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, according to Lu.

Guo's trip to the US is from Tuesday to Friday.

Guo also will meet officials including Susan Rice, the US president's national security advisor and James Comey, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and discuss issues including bilateral law enforcement cooperation, cyber security, counter-terrorism and the hunt for fugitives.

The visit is an important measure taken to implement the agreement the two countries' heads of state reached, and is important for maintaining the momentum of bilateral cooperation in fields such as cyber security and law enforcement, Lu said.
