Foreign Ministry: Countries with large nuclear arsenals bear most responsibility in disarmament
Countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should take the lead in disarmament, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Friday.
Hua made the remarks at a regular news conference while commenting on the recent remarks of US President-elect Donald Trump, who said on his twitter account that he wanted to strengthen his nation's nuclear capabilities.
"The countries that have the largest nuclear arsenals should bear special responsibility for nuclear disarmament," she said.
China is paying attention to the new American administration's policy on the nuclear issue, Hua told reporters.
Hua said China has always advocated for the ban and complete destruction of nuclear weapons.
Trump tweeted Thursday: "The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes."
