26 dead after consuming toxic liquor in East Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - At least 26 people were killed and several others were unconscious after consuming toxic liquor during Christmas in Pakistan's east Toba Tek Singh district over the last two days, local media reported Tuesday.

More than 50 residents in Mubarakbad area at the district consumed home-brewed liquor on Sunday night and ended up in hospital on Monday after suffering stomach problem, Dunya TV reported, adding that the dead included 24 Christians and two Muslims.

The affected people were shifted to district Hospital of Toba Tek Singh from where the critical patients were referred to Allied Hospital of Faisalabad city.

Police said that two liquor sellers were also among the killed and an investigation into the matter has been underway.
