BRUSSELS -- The European Police Office (Europol) is supporting a joint investigation into migrant smuggling in Germany, Europol said Monday.

According to Europol's press release, German police searched several house searches and issued two arrest warrants last week.

The arrested individuals are suspected of being part of a criminal network involved in smuggling Syrian migrants to Germany, often via Hungary and Austria.

The investigation found that the group is suspected of having smuggled 29 people since June 2016.

The criminal network charged between 500 to 1,000 euros (528 to 1,055 U.S. dollars) per person to arrange their journeys.
