5.7-Magnitude earthquake strikes off Japan's Amami islands
TOKYO - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 struck off the coast of Amami islands in southwestern Japan on Wednesday, Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The temblor occurred at 9:51 pm local time, with the epicenter at a latitude of 28.7 degrees north and a longitude of 127.9 degrees east and at depth of 180 km.
The quake logged two in some parts of Kagoshima prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at seven.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
