Fipronil-tainted eggs found in Bulgaria
SOFIA - A batch of 215,000 fipronil-tainted eggs has been found in a warehouse and in shops in Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, an official said Tuesday.
According to Kamen Yankov, head of the local Food Safety Agency, the fipronil was above the norm, but far below the toxic dose.
Someone may suffer if they eat two kilograms of these eggs within a month, Yankov told reporters.
The eggs were confiscated and would be buried, Yankov told reporters.
The contamination has come through animals that have been treated with fipronil, he said.
