NEW YORK - Former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been moved to a new, more permanent location in New York City while awaiting trial in his attempted rape case.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn was seen smiling Wednesday as he got into a gray sport utility vehicle outside a building in lower Manhattan. He was flanked by several plainclothes officers.

It wasn't immediately clear where he was going.

Strauss-Kahn is free on $1 million bail.

The one-time French presidential contender was jailed for about a week in New York City after he was arrested May 14. A hotel maid says he sexually assaulted her in his hotel room. His attorneys have said Strauss-Kahn is not guilty.
