A seven-day international conference on dance studies began in Beijing on Sunday.

The 30th International Council of Kinetography Laban at Beijing Normal University, has attracted 60 delegates, ranging from researchers and dancers to anthropologists and computer scientists.

Kinetography Laban is a notation system for recording and analyzing human movement that was derived from the work of Hungarian dance theorist Rudolf Laban in 1928.

The system, which was introduced to China by Dai Ailian, the founder of modern Chinese dance, has played an important role in helping analyze folk dances and showcase them to global audiences. It has also helped dance education and relevant academic studies.

Beijing Normal University held the 23rd International Council of Kinetography Laban in 2004. The Laban Research Center of China was founded at the university in 2014.
