PARIS - French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday called China an "ally" of France in the fight against climate change.

"From the signing of the Paris Agreement to the confirmation of her involvement, it is a radically new and profoundly structuring choice that has been made by our Chinese ally on this subject," Macron said in a speech to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year at the French presidency.

Macron said China has shown its determination to achieve a real political revolution on this issue.

"This is why, as I say, we will fully support China in the organization of the COP (Conference of the Parties) on biodiversity in 2020 and in the actions it will lead in this area," said the French president.

"We will make several projects in the framework of the French-Chinese year of ecological transition which will be launched in this autumn and I call for collective mobilization on this plan," he said.
