Online sales revenue of imported fresh food rises 300%

The online sales revenue of imported fresh food has increased by nearly 300 percent during the Spring Festival holiday, with king crabs from Chile, Boston lobster and fish from New Zealand favored by Chinese consumers, a new report said.

Residents from Qinghai province spent more on vegetables and fruits during the Lunar New Year holiday, with a year-on-year growth of more than eight times, while the money spent on aquatic products by consumers from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region surged by five times, said the report released by e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.

Meanwhile, cherries from Chile, mangoes from Vietnam and durians from Thailand were popular among Chinese peasants. The orders of cherries from Chile have witnessed an increase of more than 400 percent year-on-year.

Moreover, farmers from Henan province spent the most on smart home products, including intelligent speakers, drones for aerial photography and robots.

The sales revenue from steam mop, dish-washing machine and window-cleaning robot increased by 320 percent, 188 percent and 169 percent, compared with the same period of last year, according to the statistics from Alibaba’s online shopping platform.
