The science and technology innovation harbor, iHarbor, launched by Xi'an Jiaotong University has begun a new round of further development after basic completion of its hardware, said Zhang Maizeng, the university's Party chief, on Saturday.

The launch event was attended by over 500 people; among them representatives of the university's Teachers' Representative Committee, teachers, students and alumni. Representatives gathered in the iHarbour on Saturday.

By further development, Zhang referred to the cultural advancement of iHarbor, such as curriculum management, talent recruitment and international exchanges. A tree planting was part of the launch event.

At the launch, Wang Shuguo, president of the university, called upon all teachers and students "to create another glory of more glory for XJTU and to march forward to help realize the Chinese Dream, like their predecessors, that "As the successors of Westward Spirit in the new time, we shall pioneer a new course, create another glory for XJTU and march toward the Chinese Dream."

Guan Xiaohong, dean of XJTU's School of Electronics and Information and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, expressed his determination to move the school to the iHarbor and to foster 23 innovation institutes and research centers, in an effort to develop a world-class team on electronics and information.

Currently, the School of Mechanical Engineering has established eight high-end research institutes and will gather nearly 3,000 top talents, including academicians, leading professors, young doctors and postgraduates. The school will carry out its innovation programs centering on international frontiers and major demands.
