At the end of 2016, there were five Confucius Institutes established in Scotland.

The nonprofit public educational organization connected to China's Ministry of Education that promotes Chinese language and culture is expected to strengthen its partnership with the Scottish community.

In February 2016, the Confucius Institute for Scotland's School launched a new Confucius classroom hub in a high school in the Shetland Islands, the northernmost part of Scotland. By then, a total of 22 Confucius classroom hubs had been set up in Scotland.
