Xinhua | Updated: 2018-05-15 15:46

KUNMING - Police have detained two suspected drug traffickers and seized 42.6 kilograms of opium, authorities in the city of Tengchong, Southwest China's Yunnan province, said Tuesday.

On April 30, police received information that several men were planning to transport drugs from a neighboring country into China. Police immediately set up an investigation team and dispatched officers to border areas.

Two suspects were detained in Yingjiang county the following day, while another fled the scene, police said. Altogether 42.6 kilograms of opium were found with the two suspects.

Further investigation is underway.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime as it borders the notorious Golden Triangle, known for rampant narcotics production and trafficking.
