SEOUL - Republic of Korea (ROK) President Moon Jae-in called in security and diplomatic officials Thursday night after US President Donald Trump's cancellation of the planned summit with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s top leader Kim Jong-un.

Moon urgently summoned senior officials at 11:30 pm local time to the presidential complex, according to the Blue House of the ROK.

The officials called in were presidential chief of staff, top security advisor, chief of the national intelligence agency and ministers of foreign affairs, unification and defense.

The urgent summoning came after Trump said in a letter to the DPRK leader that "it is inappropriate" to hold the planned DPRK-US summit on June 12 in Singapore.

Trump's cancellation of the DPRK-US summit came after Pyongyang blew up tunnels at its Punggye-ri underground nuclear test site, where all of its six nuclear tests were conducted, earlier in the day.

Kim Eui-kyeom, spokesman for the ROK president, told reporters that the Blue House was attempting to figure out the exact meaning of Trump's cancellation, according to local media.
