NANJING - Police in East China's Jiangsu province said Monday that they had uncovered a fake sex-pills case, arresting 32 suspects and seizing over 4 million fake pills.
In an operation on June 13, police in Taizhou city in Jiangsu arrested 10 suspects for making and selling fake sex-pills in Nanchang in Jiangxi province, and 22 others in Yancheng city in Jiangsu for distributing the drugs. The case involved over 20 million yuan ($3.1 million).
"The well-packaged sex pills were made by mixing Sildenafil and flour, and are completely fake," said Song Yu, a police officer in Taizhou.
Sildenafil, a prescription medicine in China, may cause serious adverse reactions such as heart attacks and strokes, said Jiang Yueping, another police officer.
"One pack of fake pills cost only 1 to 2 yuan to make, but was sold for up to 180 yuan," Jiang said.
The fake pills, which involved more than 30 brands, have been distributed to more than 10 provinces across China, police said.
