President Xi Jinping recently issued a directive on anti-drug work requiring the related authorities to enhance the Party's leadership to give full play to its political and institutional advantages and mobilize the public to win the people's war against drugs in a new era.

Xi pointed out that since the Party's 18th National Congress, the National Narcotics Control Commission, various regions, and relevant departments have taken the initiative and achieved important progress in their anti-drug work.

He stressed that the country's anti-drug efforts relate to national security and prosperity and people's well-being. He called for a strict crackdown on drug-related crimes, strengthened efforts to address the drug problems in some key regions, and resolute efforts to smash drug production and trafficking gangs and break up their networks. Drug-related evil forces and their "protective umbrellas" should be eradicated, in order to eliminate the soil that allows drug use to flourish.

In addition, drug prevention promotion, especially targeting adolescents, should be deepened, in order to create a strong anti-drug environment throughout society.

People are the fundamental guarantee for anti-drug work. The public's participation and support is of great significance to the success of the country's anti-drug work.
